"The narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful," the Anthony family said in a statement on the crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo. "As a family of faith, we are deeply grateful for all of your support during this trying period. Your prayers and assistance mean more to us now more than ever."

The fund, called the Help Karmelo Official Fund, was set up to support "Karmelo and his family during this challenging and difficult time."

The total amount raised is $144,873, and the fundraising goal has been set at $200,000.

"I know that my client said it was self-defense. I don't have any reason to disbelieve that, but I need to develop facts, talk to people and figure out what's going on before I make any statements about what I think happened," attorney Deric Walpole, who was hired by Anthony’s family Friday, told KXAS-TV. "I don't have any reason to think it wasn't self-defense at this time."

He and his office can't. A judge would instruct the jury that they can't consider death or life without parole, and even if a jury did give that sentence, it would get struck down by an appeals court.

FRISCO, Texas - Frisco murder suspect Karmelo Anthony is back at home after he bonded out of jail. On Monday, a judge agreed to reduce his $1 million bond to $250,000.

Anthony is charged with murder for the stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet earlier this month.

What we know:
After the judge granted his bond reduction, Anthony was given the terms of his release.

He was fitted with an ankle monitor and was placed on house arrest. He will only be allowed to leave the house if he has prior approval from the court. He is to be supervised by a parent or a designated adult at all times. He is not allowed to have any direct or indirect contact with Austin Metcalf's family.

Texas law requires a grand jury indictment for felonies, so hopefully this part is just a formality, but now we can't be sure.

Prosecutors in this case will seek a grand jury indictment. During grand jury, only the state may present evidence. If the grand jury believes the state has the evidence to go to trial, Anthony will be indicted. If not, and Anthony is "no billed," the original charge will be dropped. The state could seek a different charge if that happens.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin's father, attempted to attend the news conference Thursday led by Dominique Alexander, the head of the Next Generation Action Network, an activist group speaking on Anthony's behalf.

Metcalf confirmed to Fox News Digital he was escorted from the event under the threat of criminal trespass charges.

The news conference addressed more than $450,000 in GiveSendGo funds that have been donated to the Anthony family after his arrest and rumors the money was being spent improperly. The second focus was supposed to be Anthony's mother, Kayla Hayes, who read a statement on behalf of the family that was prepared by attorneys.

"That was disrespectful and just shows you all the character," Alexander said. "He was not invited. He knows that it's inappropriate to be near this family, but he did it. So, I say to people, actions speak louder than words."

"What he has felled [sic] into is the political operatives that want to make this thing a political thing of hate and yet bigotry and yet racism," he said. "We have conservative operatives that have been posting nonstop about this case."

Alexander said none of the money from the GiveSendGo has been spent, and any suggestion otherwise is "intentional disinformation."

"Let's be clear," he said. "The family has not received one dime."

Alexander then ranted about the Frisco Independent School District's plans to expel Anthony a month before graduation. He noted that Anthony has a 3.7 GPA, and that even if he didn't go to class for the rest of the year, he would still be able to graduate.
