Miami Beach announces tough new rules in bid to avoid repeat of 2023 chaos which saw two killed - with curfews and beach closures created to try and tame crowds
Florida officials are set to impose some of the toughest restrictions at Miami Beach to prevent a repeat of the chaos during Spring Break 2023, which resulted in two fatal shootings and hundreds of arrests.
The Miami Beach City Commission announced earlier this month that new rules will empower the city to mandate curfews and beach closures if needed.
Commissioner David Suarez said: 'We are shutting it down. We really mean it this time. We are not taking half-measures. We really are doing everything we can to end Spring Break.'
Commissioner Alex Fernandez delivered a similar strong message, saying: 'We're shutting the door on spring break once and for all. Lawlessness will not be tolerated in Miami Beach.
The decision follows the tumultuous Spring Break in 2023, marked by two fatal shootings, nearly 500 arrests, the seize of more than 100 firearms, and numerous police clashes and brawls.
Other measures include bag checks, restricted beach access, DUI checkpoints, license plate readers, liquor stores shutting at 8pm and heightened police enforcement for drug possession and violent behavior.
Towing fee will double to $516, four parking garages in South Beach will be shut down, and sidewalk cafes on famed Ocean Drive would be closed if necessary.

Florida to deploy state troops during spring break to deter ‘lawlessness’
Florida’s rightwing Republican governor Ron DeSantis will deploy state troops to help with crowd control during the spring break season, warning that the Sunshine state will not “tolerate lawlessness”.
About 140 state troopers will be sent across Florida to assist 17 law enforcement agencies, as thousands of college students make their way en masse to popular spring break destinations, the Miami Herald reported.
During the announcement on Tuesday, DeSantis warned potential visitors that there would be consequences for lawless behavior, WPLG reported.
“We’re a law-and-order state,” DeSantis said. “You are going to pay the price and be held accountable if you’re coming for reasons other than to have fun. That is not gonna fly in the Sunshine state.”
DeSantis said that state troopers will act as security for more residential areas and help maintain order amid the surge of visitors. The deployed officers will also help direct traffic and oversee DUI sobriety checkpoints.
On Tuesday, DeSantis was joined by the Miami Beach mayor, Steven Meiner, who requested additional law enforcement as part of an ongoing initiative to “end spring break” in his city, NBC Miami reported.

You may as well try to ban niggers from KFC's. These stupid, lame-assed responses to rampant niggardry are all doomed to failure. The time and money would be better spent trying to train them to treat a STOP sign as something more than a suggestion.
A nigger is the only creature in all of God's creation that can commit heinous and violent crimes, and then have the gall to petition for laws meant to restrain society's response to that criminality. Even a terrorist understands that bad things will happen if they're caught.
