Cop-turned-convict gets prison for raping teenage girl while on the job

A former police officer has been sentenced to 18 years in prison "for violating the civil rights of a minor victim by forcibly sexually assaulting her while on duty."

Cleshaun Alfonzo Cox, 31, worked in Portsmouth, Va., and had been on the force for a little more than a year.

Federal prosecutors cited court documents saying he admitted he was on a call about a noise complaint in late May 2019 when he saw a 17-year-old girl.

A more senior officer told the girl to drive home, but instead Cox — “in uniform and working in his official capacity as an officer” — “followed her in his marked police vehicle and instead instructed [the victim] to drive to a parking lot.

“There, he offered her a ‘deal’ whereby he would not charge her for fabricated traffic offenses if she would perform a sexual act.
