This is true. I just recalled a video by a contractor whose YT channel I watch. He said the tools at HD, even if they have brand names, are manufactured specifically for HD and differ from the ones you can buy directly from the manufacturer's site.
So basically Home Depot is turning into another Harbor Freight Tools I guess. I haven't been in there forever.
