Yeah, they really are investigating a cop for nothing more than doing his job.

The Boca Raton Police officer who was under investigation after a video showed his arrest of a pregnant woman in May retired shortly after the incident, a city spokeswoman confirmed this week.

The officer, Matthew McNichol, had told Nerillia Laurent and her boyfriend Harry Hardy that they were in “his city,” then pulled her out of her car and handcuffed her on the ground while her three young children watched in a scene captured on body camera footage that spread on social media over the past few weeks.
McNichol had received dozens of civilian complaints about use of force, abuse of authority and language and tone over the course of his time at the New York City Police Department, issues that persisted in Boca Raton, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported in June.

The day of the arrest, McNichol and another officer, Timothy Fowler, responded to a call about a domestic incident involving a man banging on the hood of a car, not allowing a woman to leave, while a child ran around outside. Laurent and Hardy refused to provide identification to the officers, body camera footage showed.

Laurent was charged with resisting a law enforcement officer without violence. At the time, police also had an active warrant for her arrest on a careless driving charge in 2021. She served one day in jail and was released after pleading guilty to both charges.
