Man known for spray-painting ‘No Shoot Zones’ in city is hospitalized after being shot Wednesday in East Baltimore

A 46-year-old man is in serious condition after being shot Wednesday morning near the border between McElderry Park and Milton-Montford in East Baltimore, police said.

Southeast District officers arrived at 9:45 a.m. in the 600 block of North Luzerne Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting. Police said the victim was shot by an unidentified suspect on East Monument Street in the 700 block of North Rose Street.

In a video reposted on an Instagram page Wednesday from an account associated with rapper and anti-violence advocate Tyree Colion, a bleeding man identifies himself as Tyree Moorehead to police as they check his shoulder and back for gunshot wounds. Moorehead is the 46-year-old’s given name.

Colion, who became active in anti-violence work after his 2012 release from prison, is known for promoting “No Shoot Zones” by tagging the locations of shootings with the spray-painted slogan. After he was stabbed in 2017, he livestreamed the aftermath on his Facebook page.
