Shawnee neighbors sickened after 11-year-old girl injured in suspected racially motivated attack

On Friday, the mother of 11-year-old Nevaeh Thomas said her daughter was being harassed by a 12-year-old boy who was taunting her with racial slurs. Nevaeh Thomas responded by saying, “My black is beautiful.”

That’s when the 12-year-old allegedly assaulted her, hitting her in the head with a pole. Nevaeh Thomas was left unconscious on the ground and bleeding.

Family says attack on young girl at Shawnee apartment was racially motivated

SHAWNEE, Kan. — An 11-year-old Kansas City, Kansas girl is recovering at home after being brutally attacked Friday night.

The girl’s name is Nevaeh Thomas. Her family says she was brutally attacked Friday evening while playing with her friends near an apartment complex in Shawnee. The girl’s mother believes this was racially motivated because of what a boy said leading up to the attack.
