In Afreaka there are estimated to be about 500,000 chimpanzees (incl. gorillas) which are slowly decreasing in number but in the USA they are about 40 million of them with a further load being heaved out by the time you've read this post. (My apologies if I've ruined your breakfast)

I'd rather have the monkeys and apes. They seldom attack, keep to themselves, won't shoot, stab, rape, or steal cars. They will ask for gibs, but if you don't feed them, they go away. If the population does get out of hand, it will be legal to cull them. If you shoot one in self defense, sport or just for the lulz, you wouldn't loose everything or risk riots or burned down cities. At worst, it would be a fine from the game warden.
