Getaway grandma: Houston woman runs over accomplice who fell out of U-Haul, police say

A Houston grandmother is accused of fatally running over an accomplice during a police chase following a burglary Tuesday, authorities said.

Diawannah Corteasher Thomas, 54, was charged with murder and aggravated assault of a police officer, Houston city officials said in a news release Tuesday. She was also charged with driving while intoxicated, the news release said.

According to police, Thomas was driving a U-Haul truck that waited outside as three men broke into a convenience store, KTRK reported. Authorities said the men used bolt cutters to break into the store, and surveillance video shows them carrying beer, T-shirts and smoke paraphernalia into the U-Haul, the television station reported.
The second suspect fell as he held on to a side mirror on the passenger’s side of the truck.

“He fell off and this caused the complainant to fall and become run over by the passenger side rear tires, resulting in the death of the complainant,” the prosecutor said.
