(Pawtucket, Rhode Island) - Driving down Central Avenue toward the intersection of Newport Avenue, a building under construction appears with two towers flanking what will soon be the doors to a mosque on a parcel the Muslim Society of Rhode Island bought nine years ago.

Masjid Al-Rahman's will be the second purpose-built mosque (a building specifically constructed to be a mosque) to go up in the state. The first, Masjid Al-Islam in North Smithfield, was built in the mid-1990s and recently announced plans to expand.
