Body camera video surfaces depicting a Fresno Police officer punching a 17-year-old boy

After disturbing body camera video surfaced depicting a Fresno Police officer punching a 17-year-old boy, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer confirmed Wednesday that officer is under investigation.

Dyer, who said he was disturbed by what he saw in the video, also vowed to take appropriate action when the investigation is over.

While Dyer wouldn’t identify the officer, the complaint by the teen’s legal team names him as Christopher Martinez.

The incident in question happened in January when the M.A.G.E.C. Unit was responding to a home with a known gang member inside. As they were gathering people on a balcony, that’s when officers found the teen.

Dyer said the teen was patted down before being directed to sit down in a room. Martinez, for whatever reason, felt the teen wasn’t following directions and was trying to get away.

So, Martinez grabbed the teen’s arm before some altercation ensued — resulting in Martinez swinging at the teen several times.
