Three girls and two boys charged in the murder of a Nashville musician were back in court Monday for a four-hour bond hearing that included emotional testimony from their family members and details about potential new charges to come.
The hearing before Juvenile Court Judge Sheila Calloway came at the request of lawyers for three of the accused seeking release from detention until trial.Kyle Yorlets, 24, was killed Feb. 7 in an alley behind his north Nashville home. The five youth - three girls ages 12, 14 and 15 and two boys ages 13 and 16 - face homicide charges in his death. Prosecutors are seeking to move the case to adult court, where each of the accused could face 51-year sentences.
The youth will return to court Nov. 6 for a hearing that focuses on their individual mental competence to stand trial.
