University of New Hampshire police are seeking the community’s help – and offering a reward of up to $1,000 – to find the culprits behind a string of racially-motivated incidents on the Durham campus.

“These are prosecutable crimes which strike at the very fabric of our community, and the University Police Department is committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions,” UNH police chief Paul Dean wrote in a statement released to the university community on Tuesday afternoon.

UNH police are looking into three incidents, two of which have been previously reported. In one, swastikas were found Friday scrawled in a stairwell at the Stoke Hall dormitory, and in another, discovered Sunday, a message board on a staff member’s door in Williamson Hall was defaced with the n-word.

UNH police said in their statement Tuesday that they were also investigating a Saturday incident in which a rock was thrown at a student of color riding a bicycle near Congreve Hall, another dormitory.

Police are asking people to report information online at seacoastcrimestoppers.com, by phone at 431-1199 or by texting 274637 and including TIPSCS in the message. The reward may apply if information leads to an arrest or indictment.
