He is remembered by his niece, Sophia, his twin brother, Ronald, and his found family inside prison as a role model, loyal, deeply compassionate and self-sacrificing.

Mark was murdered on Martin Luther King Day in 1990 when he was a 19 year old Northeastern student on his way home from his girlfriend’s house. The group of Roxbury thugs who did this to him were his age, and simply picked the first white kid they thought was an easy target to beat the shit out of and rob. If you want a good cry, read his sister’s testimony at one of his killers’ parole hearings.
Of course the Globe now wants you to feel bad for another one of his killers, Roger Herbert, who recently died from cancer in Norfolk prison. They also want you to shit on prisons by blaming them for his death:
