Emmett Till's daddy was hanged for raping and killing Italian women during WWII. With the junior buck, it ended up good before it could put its rapist/killer genes into action.

Initially considered deserters, their status was changed to MIA. This means that they were eligible for tax free pay, benefits and even pay and rank advancements during their MIA status. No joke. The Japanese don't play around with criminals. My Grandfather was stationed in occupied Japan after WW2. I have pictures in a scrapbook that he took while he was there of public beheadings of criminals.

I have disagree with the class statement. It had nothing to do with social standing. It had everything to do with social code and still does but not to the same extent by a long shot.

Rich or poor, if your family was treated this way, as a man, you were expected to take care of business. You also expected a measure of discretion when it came to others who might have known. E.g., the sheriff might just turn a blind eye if he knew or suspected anything.
