UK, French and German press was not amused, the liberals in France are screaming racisss day and night. What largely got unnoticed though, since western news outlets generally ignored it:
Macron recently gave a speech (if I remember right in January), where he said exactly the same! I was stunned, and I am still not sure what to make of that since I do consider him as part of the problem. On the other hand, France seems short of collapse, so perhaps he realized. He said that liberalism and 'woke culture' are the biggest thread to western civilization, followed by Islam. I'll check if I can find the source an post it here.
