There is a deadly rockfish trap, on Rockaway Inlet, in Far Rockaway, NY, a.k.a. Africa. It's an inviting sand spit,
which juts out on the east end of the beach. It's beautiful white sand and calm, inviting water beckons :
"Take a dip, you silly negro" ! When they do, the drop off goes from about two feet, to 20 feet, with a 5 knot
current on outgoing tide. A lot of times there's a twofer - when whoever they're with attempts a rescue.
Unfortunately, humans, usually Latin immigrants, have also found out it's a bad idea. We fish there in boats,
and have warned people "Don't do it" ! The local spooks know better, but visitors don't.
