The victim's sister told police she had recently told her boyfriend, suspect Anjuan Mosby, that her sister was in possession of $40,000.


Police said Hampton was kidnapped around 7 a.m. on Wednesday from her home on Whitburn Drive in Clayton. Police said Hampton was forced to drive away in her car from her home. Court documents said that Hampton’s sister had arrived at her home to see Hampton in her car with Mosby. Hampton’s sister, along with her two children, tried following her as she drove off. Police said Mosby shot at Hampton’s sister’s car and shattered her driver-side window in the process.

Police said Hampton’s sister stopped following her after being shot at. Sometime after her sister stopped following her and the next time police saw Hampton on surveillance video, Hampton had been moved into a yellow truck.


Police said Mosby then took Hampton to an alley on Greer Avenue and shot her. Mosby then left the scene in the yellow truck. Hampton died from her gunshot injuries.


Police responded to the shooting call, where they found Hampton dead with several gunshot wounds. A receipt for a bank withdrawal and a .40 caliber cartridge casing were also found at the scene.

My father died when I was 18. He never told me to stay away from niggers, just as he never told me not to stand in the middle of the expressway. Both were just understood.
