William M., a 69-year-old retired train driver from France who attacked a migrant camp last year, shot 'blindly' near the Ahmet-Kaya Kurdish Cultural Centre in a bustling part of the city near the Gare du Nord at around noon.
In a hair salon, a hero officer managed to wrench the small calibre pistol from the killer, who was only released from prison 11 days ago pending trial, to stop the horror rampage after bullets rang out near the Eurostar station.
The massacre has sparked ugly clashes between Kurdish protesters calling for better protection for their community and riot police who deployed tear gas to quell the unrest after missiles were launched at officers.
