The Sydney Morning Herald reported Mr Hronopoulos told police he thought Mr Eswaran was trying to intimidate or make jokes about him and his partner before an alleged fight broke out.
CCTV footage allegedly captured Ms Conaty pushing Mr Eswaran and his friend before Mr Hronopoulos allegedly slapped Mr Eswaran.
Police allege Mr Esrawan then approached Mr Hronopoulos, who punched him in the jaw and knocked him out.
The 22-year-old alleged victim suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
Mr Hronopoulos was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.
