I think that if I was Chauvin, rather than risk a new trial, I'd try to make a deal with the courts.

In exchange for not putting everyone through a new trial, accept a sentence equivalent to the lowest charge of 2nd Degree Manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of three years.

Minus time served (1+ year) and with Minnesota's 2/3 sentence rule (you serve 2/3 of sentence in prison and 1/3 on parole) he would only do less than a year.

And of course, the two murder charges dropped and expunged.
