Later Tuesday morning, police say a man trying to stop a car burglar was threatened at gunpoint by the same suspect.

Police report a 42-year-old man reported seeing a "suspicious stranger" around 8 a.m. attempting to break into his neighbor's car on Legate Court in South Nashville.

The man confronted the stranger, police said, at which point he said the suspect approached him, pointed a gun at him and demanded his money, phone and wallet. The stranger fired a shot into the air during the altercation, police said.

Police used GPS tracking from the resident's phone to track the stolen device to a barber shop on Linbar Drive. There, they say they located a Toyota Yaris matching the description of the one driven by the shooter in the morning's road rage incident.


A Glock .40-caliber pistol was found in the possession of the suspect, police said. It matched the details of a firearm stolen in a Feb. 19 vehicle burglary on Benzing Road, they reported.

MNPD said the suspect is under investigation for other recent crimes in the South Nashville area.
