Dad's side of the family-Southern Rednecks and former plantation owners/slaveholders. No explanation needed here. They hated niggers.
Mom's side-half from Germany, half from Italy. Didn't get here until the 1880's and 1890's.
My Italian grandfather always referred to niggers as "shines" because they had a reflective coating of grease.
Grandpa worked at a place where he was always having a problem with a nigger threatening to "take youz to coat." Meaning to court.
Grandpa had enough one day and stuck a length of safety fuse into a road flare. He found the nigger in the parking lot, and Rastus started his shit schpiel about taking Grandpa to court. Grandpa reached into his pocket, pulled out his pseudo dynamite, lit the fuse, and tossed it into the jig's car.
After that there was no more problem..the nigger went somewhere else to look for a job.
