An 18-year-old boy is dead after allegedly stealing a tip jar from a Gwinnett County pizza shop and crashing his car while trying to get away from police.

the driver of the car — he has been identified as 18-year-old Duluth resident Jaylen Purge — had “just committed a strong-arm robbery of the Italian Pie restaurant at 745 Beaver Ruin Rd, Lilburn,” Smith said.

Jail records show the teen, who just celebrated his 18th birthday on Christmas Day, had been released from the Gwinnett County Jail on Dec. 26.
