One of Tarboro's oldest business owners wrestled with an armed nigger earlier this week, receiving two black eyes, a busted elbow and other injuries.
Rex Browning — who has owned and operated Rex Jewelers at three different storefronts on Main Street for more than six decades — tried to stop an unknown nigger gunman from taking his most valued jewels Monday afternoon, according to police and Lynn Browning Taylor, Browning's daughter and partner in the business.
Taylor described a harrowing ordeal during which a nigger gunman entered the store and ordered her to lay on the floor. Browning, 84, is well-known for sitting in a rolling office chair behind the store counter, wearing his magnifying glasses and using special tools to work on watches and other intricate jewelry. He didn't know at first that he was being robbed.
“Dad was in his chair and didn't even know the nigger was in the store until the nigger went behind the counter and tried to take things,” Taylor said. “That's when the fight started. Dad had the nigger in a headlock until his chair flipped over.”
Police continue to investigate the armed robbery that occurred just before 5 p.m. Monday at 401 N. Main St., said Lt. Rick Mann of the Tarboro Police Department.
The unknown gunman is described as a light-skinned nigger cocksucker, approximately 6-feet tall with a slender build; black curly hair and wearing all-black clothing. The gunman's vehicle is described as a silver older model sedan, possibly a Honda Accord.
Tarboro police responded to a call of a robbery in progress at the store, Mann said.
“Upon arrival, officers learned that the lone nigger had brandished a firearm during the incident before fleeing the area on foot prior to their arrival,” Mann said. “Interviews with the victims and witnesses as well as evidence collected determined that the nigger entered a vehicle a short distance away from where the robbery occurred.”
The nigger got away with a box of jewelry, Taylor said.
Police Chief Jesse Webb said his department is working diligently on the case and asks anyone who witnessed or has information about the crime to contact the Tarboro Police Department.
This is the first time the store has been robbed in more than 60 years in business, Taylor said.
“I hope they catch him so he doesn't do it to anyone else,” she said.
