Stockholm (AFP) - A tough new law that will recognize sex without explicit consent as rape comes into effect in Sweden on Sunday, after the country was rocked by the #MeToo movement denouncing sexual harassment and assault.

The law stipulates that a person has committed rape if they have been part of a sexual act in which the other person has not participated "freely".

Rape had previously been defined as a sexual act carried out with the use of violence or threat.

Now all they have to do is make some laws that prescribe punishment. Calling it rape isn't the same as doing something about it....

On a similar note, some years ago an Italian friend was telling the story of a man from his town who was jumped and gang raped by four drunken Swedish women on a hen night.

The guy went to report the crime to the police and they asked him what he wanted from them.

"Congratulations! Here is your luckiest man in Italy badge".

The guy was seriously still upset and it turns out that at the time (early 90's) Italy had no law covering women raping men.

Strange, but true.
